Rome is the unceasing town and the true town of empire with its bequest of columns, triumphal arches, and gigantic buildings. But this isnot the whole story of this traditional town : Rome is also aflourishing and busy metropolis where Italian presidency and commerce rub shoulders together to the soundtrack of present-day existence. Additionally Rome incorporates the tiny town state of Vatican City, the domain of the Roman Catholic Church and the home of the Pope.
All roads, naturally, lead to Rome and not only for the traditional Coliseum, Trajan’s Column, Saint Paul’s Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps-visitors also discover the pleasures of the lesser-known streets with their lively chat and bustle. The town is maybe even more beautiful at night when lights pick out the details and silhouettes of the buildings and monuments.

major music lovers have long considered Vienna to be just this side of nirvana : one encounters music everywhere, from the sounds of a child practicing a Mozart piano sonata thru an open window to street musicians playing classical as well as folkmusic. No other town has been home to so many composers of international renown : some, such as Schubert, Strauss, Schoenberg and Berg were born there, others, such as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms and Mahler chose to live there.
Culinary culture is avital component of the way of life that has distinguished Vienna for centuries. Viennese cuisine is perhaps the sole cuisine in the world that’s named for a town and not a country. Vienna has been influenced by many countries through the past ten centuries, something which will explain much of its attraction – and not only in the realm of cooking. The word Heurigen has long been part of the vocabulary of tourism in Vienna – no sightseeing visit to the town on the Danube would be complete without a trip to a Viennese Heurigen. Heurigens have now become a synonym for some of what’s best in Vienna : hospitality, gemtlichkeit, joie de vivre mingled with a little melancholy, good solid food and refreshing dry wine. Actually, as a uniquely Viennese establishment, a method of life, Heurigens are 2nd only to Kaffehaus.
