Acoteias in the Algarve region of Portugal is a good choice of holiday location for Algarve villas, with reliable wonderful year round weather including a substantial 300 days a year of sunshine. Yet there is a cooling breeze in the summer to keep visitors to the area from sweltering in the Mediterranean heat. So what is there to do there?

Beaches
Praia de Falesias is one of the most beautiful and well known golden beaches in the Algarve region and its golden sand is set against the wonderful red sandstone cliffs. It is a Blue Flag beach with a children’s playground to keep them entertained and a good choice of water sports from the beach to take part in over the summer. This beach is just minutes away from Acoteias and is one of the many fantastic beaches within reachof the town. If you prefer something rockier, head west whilst if you head east you will find flatter sandier beaches.

Golf
There are, of course, an excellent choice of golf courses to visitaround Acoteias – enough for most visitors to be entertained on every day of a holiday whilst never visiting the same course twice. About 10 minutes away is the golfing centre of Vilamoura with its six superb golf courses and a variety of different challenges and settings along with the associated pro shops, equipment hire and practice facilities. Near to Acoteias is the 9-hole golf course called , with a spectacular final hole called the Devils’ Parlour that is over a ravine with views to the beach below.

Family Fun
There is also plenty to entertain the entire family of all ages in the area. For water parks, try out Aqualand with slides, infant areas and high adrenaline slides. Slide and Splash is another one to try out and this has landscaped gardens in addition to entertaining breathtaking rides and more gentle baby ridesfor the not so brave. And in SeaWorld, you can even swim with the dolphins.

Other family entertainment in the area includes a petting farm with goats and deers, called . Being located in the Algarve, it has its own 18-hole crazy golf courses. Also visit Amazonia, which features Amazonian creatures such as alligators, crocodiles macaws and turtles.

Nightlife
Local nightlife is usually quiet and relaxed and Acoteais is not a busy all night resort, but Albuferia is not that far away for those looking for this kind of night time entertainment.

Outside Acoteais
Why stick to just visitingand exploring the town you are staying in one of the many villas in Algarve available when you can also explore the wider area? Faro is the airport you will probably fly in through and it is well worth a visit to the traditional cobbled streets of the old town or a visit to 13th century , for plenty of architectural interest and excellent views of the town. Less than an hour away in the car is the Serra de Monchique mountain conservation area, which is superbas a location for exploring on the back of a horse or by bike or just walking.
